Anyone prefer this method of dating/relationship
« on: September 09, 2024, 10:24:36 AM »
Just one for curiosity here. Would anyone here fancy dating/relationship coupling ups like they used to do back in Medieval times? Georgian times?

I mean the sort of relationship/dating where the heads of two families (the man) would get together and arrange for their son/daughter to marry. I nit saying that the son/daughter have no say in it but more the heads of the family acting kind of like matchmakers.

The system no doubt existed for a reason. I wonder if it might be potentially a good system that we over look today (well in some parts of the world similar might still exist in some form). I've said before that women I sing think tend to be good at Matchmaking or assessing a guy's worth kind of like bad pawn brokers - they'll see a guy with a flash car and think he's rich when really he is up to his neck in debt with paying for it. A man though I think may potentially be a better matchmaker as they can look past all of that and potentially weigh things up better. Would be interesting to hear thoughts on this.

Well this system still exists in India. Even many of my very educated Indian coworkers who live in US  got married like this
and these are very successful marriages. Very low divorce rate.
I think there is something to be said about a person not being able to think straight when they are infatuated andhis/her friends/family understanding much better who might be the best for him in a mate.

I don't think it's only the father that decides, the mom is also very much involved :)
Apparently a young person gets a few selected choices and decides among the after couple of dates.

The groom and a bride are usually from the same caste and social class and very close in age.

Agree with  what Olga wrote.
I also have several professor friends from India living here in USA whose parents chose their spouses.
No divorces that I know of.

The idea is very valid that many parents know better than their children (even adult children) who will make a good match for them.

However, I will qualify that to say that this works best in highly educated well-to-do upper classes where neither side is trying to substantially 'upgrade' in terms of wealth, status, caste, etc.
In the lower classes, often the parents are interested in things (money, status) rather than the well being of their children.

Note:  My own parents were not educated enough nor worldly enough to have chosen a good wife for me.

My best friend from India, however, refused all attempts by his family to get him into an arranged marriage.  His sister was in charge and sent him tons of pics of very attractive gals.  He kept telling her to stop sending he pics as he wasn't going to marry a gal of Indian heritage.  She got very  mad and wouldn't speak to him for several years.

I asked him why he was against Indian gals.  He never gave a totally clear answer only saying broadly that he didn't like their mind set.

He didn't have much luck with gals his age or younger in USA, and ended up marrying a USA woman who was several years older than himself that I didn't approve of, although I didn't tell him this.
They have been married some 30 years or more.

She doesn't like me because back in the beginning of the marriage I advised him against building the new house that she wanted.

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

no, me neither
I don't wanna live in the 12th century and have 12th century social conventions
this is why I also reject all religions in favor of modernity

you guys are doing it wrong

try livin in the 21st century
you wanna get yur own web site in Russian/Ukrainian/English
and ya wanna have female friendly content to attract 'em

this is like hunting with decoys, yet another subject I'm sure ya'll know nuthin about
a lot of knowledge from hunting, can be used in other domains
when I was single in Ukraine, I knew all the game trails and watering holes, where single young women went
and I knew how to spot and moveup on my quarry without "spooking" them

web site content...
cats, fashion, cosmetics, beauty tips, Art
and then ya have an "About Me" section with LOTS of virtue signaling, expensive car, stand in front of the most expensive house in yur area, an so on

then ya go to Russian social media
and constantly promote yur web site with links to it

a year later you should have hundreds if not thousands of female contacts
from there you make a shortlist

this is EASY

you run a picture of yurself (although one you COMPLETELY fabricate)
up the flag pole on yur web site
and ya look around and take note of the women who salute it!!!
build it, and they will come, think about it, where else they GONNA GO!!!
they will come to YOU

freakin easy as pie

WTF is wrog with all you guys, and yur pay-per-letter BS
what amateurs

as Monty Python would say, "you are all wipers of other peoples's bottoms"
I sneer in yur general direction
