I doubt Russia will pose much if a threat for much longer in terms of being a protagonist in any World War, Russia is almost a spent force. Their Soviet stockpiles are running towards low, they can't produce in sufficient quantities and their economy is heading south.

Russia have used up most of their strength against Ukraine and wouldn't last long against NATO forces in Europe. They would be going into a World War already knackered out while the rest would be going into it relatively fresh.

China is the only real country left large enough and powerful enough to present a real threat. They seem content though to not want to push out that way, there have been hostile sounds but that is all, they seem largely content to stay within themselves. For China even Russia is a concern as Russia can be as much of a competitor as it is an ally/trading partner. China is probably happy to see Russia failing slowly and profiteering out of its failure. For China a weakened Russia is less of a concern on its doorstep that it had to worry about.

Russia I would suggest also has a manpower issue, not just Ukraine. Sure they have a far greater number of men to call upon but they also need manpower in its factories, in its economy or the economy starts failing faster. At the moment Russia have a manpower shortage because of the war, that is only likely to get worse over time. Some migrant labour may be imported or work contracted out to other countries but this won't solve their manpower problems completely. Russia is heading in a bad way and the longer it keeps the Ukraine war up the worse it's problems will become, World War is probably off the table for Russia now.

we learned, from the effects of shipping america's military inventory to Ukraine
that in the event of a major war, the usa has enuff munitions for at most a month of HEAVY "big war" fighting

BUT, our current military budget is ALREADY $850 billion per yr
not counting off-budget secret projetcs
it goes heavy into $12 billion aircraft carriers carrying $150 million stealth aircraft....
and an American soldier, costs 10 times what a chinese one does.....
and don't forget the $2,000 toilette seats, and $200 screwdrivers the pentagon buys

like Russia, China will rely on asymmetrical warfare
china has 20 years to add an AI ship tracking computer to the DF-21 missile to use in WWIII
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DF-21
so that it's a guided ship killin missile, and not a purely ballistic one
and fire salvos at the US Navy in the pacific
along with 10 other types of anti-ship missiles
and use varinats of the same missile to target the US pacific bases
all at the same time, thousands and thousands of 'em
China just recently demonstarted 8,000 large drones flying in complex guided formations
this'll be coming at ya to

china will use millions of dollars in "smart AI" munitions to target billions in US military assets
and they can EASILY out-produce the USA by a wide margin

china has the industrial advantage...
becuz beginning in the 1980s, the American oligarcy shut down 50,000 American factories to make their products in china, so the oligarchs could make more money
those same chinese factories, directly or indirectly financed by the USA will be making Chinese weapons to use against poor and middle-class American kids
meanwhile the oligarch's kids will be on vacation somewhere (just like in Russia!)

I could see a conventional war between china and the usa as something like the '67 arab/israeli war
a very short, but intense "exchange"
if it concludes, and one side wins more than the other, then it MIGHT NOT go into a nuclear exchange
if the USA loses the exchange, then it is no longer a pacific power
and it needs to crawl back to North America

the big problem the USA will have will be the national debt doubling 10 years from now
if china/russia were smart, they could use "the debt bomb" to sink the American economy by shorting the dollar and target the banking system through "financial engineering"
and THEN start the war

also note, in the 2040s there will be no such thing as arms reduction, or prohibited items, war crimes and the like
future generations of Israeli  Pager Bombs will replace PETN with more powerful CL-20
which let's them replace a small amount of explosive with Novichok-J
instead of wounding thousands of Hezboohoohas, they'd kill 'em all and anyone near them
this pager attack would'v kiled the same number as hiroshima
China will be doin this to Americans
aymetrical warfare is the MOST COST EFFECTIVE way to fight

in short, our military industrial system, is like the rest of the economy
profit comes before all else
and profit, is the hidden cost to the us military, that china doesn't have
cuz the People's Liberation Army owns it's own factories

the war will not just be one military vrs another
it will be one economic system against another
one of them depends on the share price of General Dynamics and Northrop
and the other depends on slave labor in state-run factories
any bets on which one's gonna win

the only advantage the USA has, is that China is even more phuqued up than America
America has to figure out how to explot it, the way they did against the Japanese in WWII (who were the BIGGEST dumb-asses, ever)
if Japan had taken out the USA's carriers on December 7, there would've been no Doolittle raid and NO Midway, no Quadacanal....
this is why China will TRY to do it on DAY ONE!

Re: Russians support killing Ukrainian children

You must not read or speak Russian.  There is plenty of such sentiment expressed on Telegram, on Russian sites, and in intercepted calls recorded and released by the SBU.  I remember one call, between a soldier on the front and his wife (a teacher or childcare worker - can't remember which) in Russia, in the first 3 weeks of the war.  She expressed a desire to torture Ukrainian children.  Even her husband was shocked.  Ukrainians identified her, and her husband, on VK.  The desire to rape, torture, and murder “hohols” is actually pretty common.

Most Russians are not opposed to the war.

This is what I am seeing as well. Even Russians living in US sometimes support the war! And yes listening to the recorded conversations by families of Russian soldiers is very infuriating :(

Shocking report of previously unknown bias in national media
« Reply #1528 on: October 05, 2024, 06:33:05 PM »
It is amazing that the presidential race is so close given the overwhelming biased 'reporting' from leftist “legacy” networks

Rich Noyes at NewsBusters reported that the tone of coverage about the Trump-Vance ticket (excluding statements by politicians) from July 21 to Sept. 27 was 96% negative on ABC, 81% negative on CBS, and 87% negative on NBC.

By contrast, the coverage of the Harris-Walz ticket was 97% positive on ABC, 85% positive on CBS, and 65% positive on NBC.

Excluding Democratic voters who love this partisan tilt, naive swing voters tuning into these leftist “legacy” networks are served an amazingly tilted menu of information and misinformation.

"race baiting" christian evangelicals and other various low intellects to support right wing republicans has been ongoing since at least Nixon, and the "Silent Majority"
coupled with Trump's own media and a cadre of right-wing web sites from Breitbart to Fox
they exiist, solely for the purpose of spreading right wing lies to "conservatives" so they get repeated enuff "to be true"

by contrast, main stream media doesn't spread lies about Hillary's emails, eating pets in Springfield, or peaceful protest on Jan 6
and as you noted, without the lies, a different picture emerges

the partisan tilt, may have something to do with 34 felony convictions, hundreds of millions in law suits, and everybody who worked closely with him, is in jail or awaiting trial, or has been disbarred, plus how badly he phuqued up Covid, planned a failed insurrection that put 1,000 of his supporters in jail. had the largest budget deficit in US history, and lie after lie after lie after lie
but OTHER THAN THAT???
I dunno, do ya think this impacts people's thinking any?
obviously, not yurs

you will find very few stories about that on right wing media
but you don't seem upset from their omission

will you "fight for Trump" on Nov 5, when the word goes out for Republicans to show up and block voters from voting?
Insuurection II

you're either part of the problem or part of the solution

your Apologetics for the oil and gas industry is ALL A LIE
to prove it, just type in "anthropocene temperature chart" on google images (see below)

ergo, it is self evident that you repeat lies for the oil and gas industry, and lies for the oligarchy, you EVEN LIE ABOUT ME!
in fact, YOU are the useful idjut
i'm just a regular idjut, of little utilitarian value to the oligarchy, cuz I know what they're all about...

Trump's clusterfuck on Covid, led to over a million americans dying
and Trump started the first insurection since the civil war
and in ONLY 4 years, ran up a deficit higher than the first 200 years of our history combined, including WWI and WW2 Korea and Vietname costs!!!!
more impeachments, lawsuits, felony convictions than all our past over 200 yrs of presidents put together

Trump was repsonsible for the Afghanistan fiasco, by agreeing to a timed withdrawl that was impossible to meet (normally you never negotiate this subject on a time-table)
and Trump released 5,000 taliban fighters from prison who turned around and resumed their activities
IMHO, Trump planned for this to happen, all the while depriving Biden of briefings, he had to read about it in the paper

and you wanna vote for this AGAIN?
who you callin' an "idjut" holmes, look in the phuqueing mirror, if ya wanna see an idjut, and a tall one to boot

100% Trump will try to steal the election once more, and people will die and go to jail becuz of it (AGAIN!!)
Trump Bible, Trump Sneakers, Trump Watch, Trump NFT
Melanoma Trump gets $250,000 from the RNC for every 3 minute speech supporting her husband
and sells nude photos of herself in a book along side the Trump Bible, they got the literary world locked up, don't they

what a great Griftopia this country is
cuz it's full of suckers and Rubes
just like YOU...

watch the effect global warming will have on food prices 10 years from now, and what that will do to inflation and interst rates on a $70 trillion debt
and then, dear readers, social security has a $150 billion yearly shortfall...what happens then?
tell me again, who the idjut is...

j'accuse vous,  Le Garcon Blanc, Grand BEEL
hmmm hmmmm

Doom is coming, and I don't mean the side-scroll video game

Wharton Business School and the Congressional Budget Office agree with me
http://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/issues/2023/10/6/when-does-federal-debt-reach-unsustainable-levels
http://www.cbo.gov/publication/59711

The Debt Bomb caused by cutting taxes for the wealthy
is gonna blow the entire world up, and NOT Putin's nukes
when it does, the dollar becomes a worthless piece of paper
and EVERYTHING you own is priced in dollars

who idjut now?

People who live in the dirt must die
« Reply #1534 on: October 07, 2024, 07:23:06 AM »
your Apologetics for the oil and gas industry is ALL A LIE

I didn't argue about any of that. I pointed out historical fact. Boo-hoo!

Over 2 billion people use dung to cook with and to heat their homes.
If they used fossil fuels carbon emissions would fall exponentially. Millions
of people per year die from the deadly gasses that dung emits in their own
homes. They are literally killing themselves because they are too poor.

Unfortunately the dirt poor (they live in dirt) can't afford the clean oil or
gas in Africa, India, Pakistan. The lefty's want to do stupid things to those
who use fossil fuels.

The super rich left, like Bill Gates wants to the dirt people and their children to
die. They are producing fake meat and paying corrupt governments officials from
poor countries to kill their own beef industries so that they can eliminate which
poop/dung so that these billions of people freeze to death.

You don't even know what you don't know. Lefty's are about feelings, not about
science, effectiveness and certainly not about right or wrong.

The oil and gas industry is clean, clean, clean compared to burning cow pies.
Look it up and you might learn something but this is about facts not feelings
about poor drowning polar bears.

Look it up! or do you want them dead too?

dung is a "renewable"
big herbivores eat grass and make dung, ultimately it's a form of solar energy
it's a "closed system", plants in, dung out, no net increase of carbon, it's just recycled automatically by nature with photosynthesis

fossil fuels are from the Paleocene epoch, a HUGE amount of carbon buried in the earth for millions of years which locked in the carbon
extracting and burning it, makes LOTS of money for the oil and gas industry, which is why they HATE renewables, but it also raises the level of greenhouse gases,
which they don't care about, cuz the ONLY THING thy care about is how much money they make
so yur example, likely gleaned off of some far right web site, is phuqueing STOOPID!
and you can't EVEN SEE THAT!!!
anyone with basic knowledge of chemistry and biology can see that, but NOT YOU, so you lie about it instead

China's not ready for a military conflict with the USA yet, it's a long way off

Trump would sell Ukraine to Putin
then sell all the government secrets he stole to whoever pays him, and claim he can do that, and be immune from prosecution
last time the Saudis gave Jarred $2 billion, in exchange for all the CIA info on Saudi dissidents and Saudi CIA assets, who were all disappeared
Democrats ended the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, that  Republicans started

how will 3rd world people pay for oil and gas? sell their organs?
they need a low-cost indiginous renewable energy source
when I was a kid, I made a solar cooker out of cardboard and aluminum foil and I cooked hotdogs with it, and I was 12 yr old
that's one example of low cost locally produced renewable energy, there's 100 more out there, dung being one of them

ya wanna funny picture....here ya go

lemme know, when ya find something "factual" and not some BS you scraped off of Breibart or whatever
yur ignorance is stunning and I LOVE IT when ya display it here
please sir, can I have s'more?

Trump would sell Ukraine to Putin

Or would he?

By the time Trump gets into Office it'll be February, if he wins. Russia will be getting very low on Artillery and Tanks by then. I wouldn't mind betting if he sees greater profit in trying to get the Russian Federal States to defederate and go independent. He'll know if he can do that he can get US companies in and invested in the new countries that would be formed. Those states with Gazprom in how much would their Oil & Gas be worth broken up and sold off.

Putler would be powerless, he would have no Tanks or Artillery to send in, the US could supply a handful of Javelins to each state just in case any showed up. The Army in those regions would then bring to those separate countries. It would largely get fun to numbers if soldiers and most of Putler's soldiers would be stuck in Ukraine and any left over defending Moscow. He would had little to no army to send against the former Russian states. Overnight he could get left virtually powerless without a pot to piss in, nothing to have to use anything anywhere.

The US could help arm these new countries with anything they need, at a price if necessary to deter Putler. Russia would become a rump state probably not a lot bigger than Ukraine. It would be all over for Putler and the US would have massive new markets to invest in and gain big new profit.

If Trump has any sense he'll do that, maybe he would maybe he wouldn't :-\

Not long for the US Presidential Election now.

I don't know if recent Kamala I don't think is coming across strongly enough, not in policy but in presence. She needs to do a lot more rallies like Trump does I think, moreso if anything. The rallies seem great at boosting support and presence. Kamala may hold the voting blocks but I am not sure if she will galvanise those voting blocks enough and people in general enough to come out and vote for her in large enough quantity.

Potentially the Democrats nay have an Achilles heel on their side, that they either have to pick a white male/female to run for Presidential Candidate or a black (or Hispanic, etc)  person to run. The ethnic minority candidate might gain the ethnic minority vote but might  not be that appealing to white voting democrats who just might not bother voting so much. The white nominee might not get the ethnic minority vote so much if the ethnic minority aren't feeling galvanized that he or she represents them well enough or at all.

So it could be a close one but I am not so sure now that Kamala Harries will get it, possibly she might if the overall Democrat vote holds up enough and the ethnic minority voter blocks comfortable out in the swing states large enough, but I am not so sure that she is having enough pull.

Trench, stop drinkin out of mud puddles, it'll give ya dysentary...

The war gives Putin MORE POWER, so it's in his interest for it to continue
cuz if ya make anti-putin comments, it's considered "Treason Against The State in War Time" - a very big "no no" in Russia

easiest way for Putin to win, is to do something hard, which is to get the flow of western weapons to stop
easiest way to do that, is to tip the scales in Trump's favor like he did in 2016

IMHO, Trump ain't gonna win

then Putin's gotta figure a way to "Pause" the war...to rebuild the military
he has to sell the truce as a victory to the oligarchy
only problem is, he'll be long dead before the Russian Military-Industrial Complex is ready for 2.0 of the Ukrainian war
and that does not appeal to him, all this GLORY was supposed to be HIS
he will test President Harris, early on, and if she's more or less like Biden
then the only other alternative is WMDs for "Putin" to win vrs waiting 10/20 years for Russia under SOME OTHER PRESIDENT to win instead
by waiting until the West's "Economic Emergeny" in the 2030s-2040s precludes them from supporting Ukraine and Israel and Taiwan
and that's when the shitstorm happens EVERYWHERE all at once

If Kamala Harris wins I believe she has already said she'll continue to support Ukraine like Biden did. If that leads to WMD or similar then even if Trump won and withdrew support for Ukraine it would then be better for Ukraine then facing a WMD or similar situation.

In theory too much support for Ukraine could push Putler into a check position and make him go for checkmate - WMD or similar.

Russia losing all it's tanks and artillery by around April next year will mean that in theory Ukraine could probably likely hold their own with just the support of the UK and EU then. The decrease in support might convince Putler not to use WMD or similar.

I think Ukraine and moreso the West's game has always been on playing the long game. The more Russia's economy and it's military gets run down over the long term the weaker they become. Key is to avoid looking like the West is backing them to the hilt with massive support and a quick decline in Russia's fortunes. If the Russian mindset moves to being fed up with the war as it's been dragging on a long while with nothing much happening then Russia is more likely to want out. Then it's just a case of how that is brought about.

It may be that you'll have to vote for Trump even though you are a Kamala Harris supporter to avoid the risk of a WMD attack on Ukraine

where do you see Putin runnin out of equipment in 6 months?
tell me, so I can send this intelligence to Ukraine....
oh...never mind....

Ukraine-war is like WWI
years of attrition on all sides from Trench warfare, until somethin disrupts the statemate

Ukraine has 2 stalemate breakers to worry about...
1. flow of western weapons being cut-off
2. Putin deciding to change the stalemate with WMDs

Putin's staff ain't very good at doin "cost-benefit analysis", cuz they skip the cost and only look at the benefit
Putin may look at Kamala being a woman, as a sign of weakness
that cuz she's a woman, and "chorny" she won't play Nuclear Poker with such a big strong white man like him
the current strategy favors the West
for every dollar in arms the west provides to Ukraine, destroys ten dollars in Russian arms
Russia has nearly 700,000 KIA/WIA, the West ZERO
Russia has destroyed infrastructure from these weapons in Russia, the West ZERO
Escalation will change that equation

Putin has the upper hand with nuclear and Novichok poker
West has no chemical weapons at all
and won't use a nuke in reponse to Putin's use of one in Ukraine
escalation is a win for Putin, but West is scared of it
cuz so far, they ain't got "no skin in the game"
if Putin uses a nuke, it FORCES the west to escalate, which they DON'T REALLY want to do
the Wests' escalation will fall short of being a deterrant
and Putin will retaliate against helpless Ukrainian civilians
he doesn't even need to attack the west directly in response
though he could, in a number of various sinister ways

so far, Putin is ONLY using the THREAT of nukes
but if Trump loses, and we won't know the outcome of the election until January, if we're lucky, and IF the coup scheduled for next month fails...
if Trump fails, then the probability of WMDs is GREATLY increased
particularly with the incredible success Ukraine has had since Kursk

it'd also benefit Putin, if he can push Iran into testing their first nuke, before Putin strikes Ukraine, to sow more fear, uncertainty and doubt in the West
this war is all about a street urchin from Leningrad who decided he wanted to be "Vladimir The Great" by restoring Russia's former empire through force of arms
and convinced the oligarchy to go along, cuz they'd all get a piece of Ukraine

Putin used a noisy sledge hammer on Ukraine, when he shoulda used a silent needle
big, big phuque-up on his part

owning a cemetary is big bizness in Russia now, Russians are dying to get in
Russia will win all global paraplegic olympics from now on, cuz of the massive numbers of dewds with missing limbs in Russia
this is how ya disarm Russians

Russki Mir is a totally phuqued-up place

if Putin can use his political engineering skills, to tilt the electoral college vote by 2% in Trump's favor, Trump wins
in 2016, it was Hillary's emails coupled with bribing the FBI to release details of email investigation 1 week before election combined with Manafort-Deripaska poll sharing

this is all he really needs to do sometime in the next 3 weeks
to win the war in Ukraine

Well here is one article of many on Russia running out of tanks and artillery next year:

http://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/07/17/7466120/index.amp

Difficult to say exactly when, estimates differ slightly. Some say it could be as early as April maybe even March, some a few months later.

I think your analysis above is correct on how things will go down Krim, so why aren't you voting Trump ;D

Just joking, potentially though a Kamala Harris win could be bad for Ukraine though she seems to be willing to carry on supplying Ukraine. I support Ukraine being supplied with weapons too but overdoing it I can see could potentially be more disastrous than intended.

Better perhaps for the US to drop out of supplying weapons next year and Ukraine battle front ends up in a prolonged situation of stalemate and decreasing action. Potentially as Putler gets older he may end up caring less about winning the war and accept he is coming to the end of his days with little point bothering about places in history as he won't know anything about it.

That leaves the door open potentially for someone else to move to power that may use ending the war as a popular spring board to get to the top position.

We'll see, this article though makes it look like Kamala Harris may just win on November 4th:

http://www.ft.com/content/993cd0e4-8a56-4e29-9347-a2f205a43ae3

Looks like Biden stepping down has given the Democrats a real chance of winning the Presidency by the uptick in polling in the swing states for Harris since then. From those polls I would guess that she is leading in enough swing states to win, if polling holds out for her, she only needs to drop a bit of Trump to pick up a bit for Trump to win.

I am still not sure if Harris will get it as pills can be wrong but we'll see.

Where to place my bet in the bookies this time? 🤔

I don't personally myself have anything against either but I'm not a US citizen so it doesn't bother me so much. Potentially Trump may be more helpful to Britain than Harris but now we have a Labour PM in office and they may not get in so well. Potentially Harris may get on better with our Labour PM. Before I think a lot more could have been achieved through the Trump-Boris situation but first Trump lost office then Boris. We seemed to get Aukus and a few other minor things but not enough time for anything deeper.

For me I wouldn't want to see Ukraine be taken over by Russia. While it may not be definite with Harris possibly it is less likely with Trump. Russia using WMDs or similar in reaction to Ukraine being continued to being supplied by the US better than they can supply themselves is a concern. So possibly I can't be too concerned if Trump wins if it ends up saving Ukraine is the thought on my mind. Less than a month to find out now so not long to wait.

i've seen the recent satellite photos of thousands of Russian tanks in storage.....i'm sure they have more than just tanks
the Soviets were better than Russia at making stuff, all this stuff is Russia's inheritance from Stalin

they'll even get that big "Tsar Canon" fixed, load it with black powder and bombard Ukrainian castles wit it

if Putin engineers a Trump victory AGAIN, it's a "DOUBLE VICTORY"
he not only phuques Ukraine, but Trump's Project 2025, which Too Tall BEEL is drooling over, will permanently phuque America
it's a "two-fer", can't pass it up, don't phuque it up
meanwhile, all his best minds, either left or is sittin in a gulag
we'll see if he can pull it off, but I don't think he has the "talent" to plan this anymore

a Harris win, will completely change Putin's outlook, cuz right now, Russians are acting like they KNOW Trump's gonna win
but their lips are sealed as to the "why" of this belief
somethin's goin on....

I don't think we'll know the outcome of this election early
it could take to January
depending on how successful the poll blocking is

usa law sez, if the election results can't be certified by Inauguration Day
then the senate votes on who it is, and the republicans have a majority

normally Prighozin and Deripaska would be workin on this, but NOT THIS TIME LOL!!

Putin's "Incremental Approach" to WMDs
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/russia-uses-chemical-weapons-against-ukrainian-forces-250-times-in-september-afu-support-forces/ar-AA1rTtkf?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=c898c289d17f41aca61fdcda2ebd5857&ei=306

strategy is to get western media "desensitized" to GAZ
to diminish the West's perceived impact and retaliation

with incrementalism, the next step BEFORE Novichok
would be to move up the scale of toxicity
I'd go with mustard gas, super easy to make
and you can get somebody in Donetsk to do it, so no blame falls on Russia

"The President's Own" UNITED STATES MARINE BAND
« Reply #1545 on: October 08, 2024, 10:42:29 AM »
We went to presentation by "The President's Own" UNITED STATES MARINE BAND last night.
Tickets were free, but you must obtain them beforehand as seats are fully filled.

And WOW . . . it is really worth it to go.
The professionals are every bit as good as any other high level city or national band.

Although not playing an instrument, especially spectacular was the soprano SSgt Hannah Davis who sang "Ah! Je veux vivre" from Romeo et Juliette.

I believe she had the highest vocal register I have ever heard.
Probably could break glass.

This band is currently touring across the USA . . . I highly recommend you attend.

Oh them, they are nothing, they are just inflatable decoy tanks. Didn't you spot the Gopnik in the shed to the side rapidly inflating them with a cycle foot pump ;D

They probably still have a few thousand left but if they lose a few hundred a month it will soon chew through them and add up to a few thousand in a matter of months. Main deal is that they are being destroyed faster than Russia can make them.

I personally savour the day when Russia runs out of its Soviet stockpile of Tanks and Artillery and it becomes belittled in status as a result, no longer the big meany it once was able to threaten and bully at will.

not fakes....
they were there long before the ukraine war....

Putin also has escalation worries
but his biggest worry is NOT being Vladimir The Great

narrow is the path that Vlad must tread
the Nov 5 "election" is a pivotal moment for the future direction of the war

I hate this war with all my passion, I just hate it
humanity is a flawed species, which will become extinct one day
and this level of stupidity is the reason why

you don't need a billion dollar AI to take over from humanity
a calculator would be good enuff

Voters don't have good choices
« Reply #1549 on: October 14, 2024, 08:09:46 PM »
Wife is increasingly frustrated by the choices we have as voters.
She  says:  How in a country of around 333 million people is it possible that our current presidential candidates are the best to be found ?

This brought to mind (and I explained to her) that up until 1968, presidental candidates where often chosen by political leaders in 'smoke filled rooms.'
In other words, even as there were some 'primaries' it was the political bosses who had the final say.

And I would find it hard to argue against the case that they did much better than the voting public.

Party bosses would not have chosen Donald nor Kamala.

Reminds of the words often attributed to Winston Churchill:  "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

As I have stated before:  Rather than encouraging more voter turnout, I would encourage less voter turnout.

There should be standards that have to be met before a person is 'certified' as eligible to vote.  IQ type tests, knowledge of basic economics, knowledge of the basics of our political system, the central ideas of the various political parties, etc.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
