How To Program Russians
« on: August 23, 2024, 07:29:35 PM »
In Putin's Russia, everyone must see images of patriots fighting fascista
then they hold up a mirror to patriots to compare themselves
smatree, aren't YOU a patriot to????

it's gonna be Gopnick Genocide

the Russia that could've been
I once had a vision of the Russian Far East Coast as being almost like Big Sur
and we could have made Russia's liberal California there
but Russia is already a gulag like stalag 17
I am so happy my grandparents fled Ukraine
if the commies or nazis don't get ya, ya still got them Russian drones and Raketa

my big question, chicken or egg, but about Russia
does a slave population create a tyrant leader
or does a tyrant leader create a slave population?

Oh I am SO glad You wrote this! I was kind of worried when you wrote
"za russkij mir".
I still grew up with Soviet style propaganda, then there was "оттепель" And I had sort of a "I told You" moment
with some of my more patriotic friends and school teacher. (my parents were always against the system)
But it's all coming back to stalinism right now :( it's really scary.
засунули бы они свой "русский мир" в одно нехорошее место" instead of spreading it.
Who the hell wants it?

I personally think a slave population. Think about i: Stalin methodically killed everyone capable of independent thinking
for years. The genetics of the entire nation got affected after all successful people left or were killed during October revolution and then Stalin finished off everyone else who was not a slave. Later there was a brain drain and even now
all the thinking russians are living the country. It's pretty sad. Who will be left there?

I have often wondered how the Soviets accomplished so much in science, engineering, space, etc. . . . given that such a large percentage of the intelligent persons had been killed by Stalin and others.

I think science and engineering is just a different type of thinking. You can be a patriot not ever questioning authority and very closed minded but still be very good in math, science, engineering, chemistry etc.

Soviet education was great for hard sciences. I myself went to a specialized math school which was a magnet school for gifted kids. But the education sucked when it came to teaching critical thinking. Kids were not taught to do their own research and form their own opinions at all! For example when I moved to US I remember reading 2 articles with opposing view points and I just was not prepared to deal with this kind of challenge at all! I read one and thought "oh he is 100% right!". Read another one and thought "Oh he is also 100% correct!"
We never read any opinions we could question in school at all!

the Soviets like China copied everything from the west....
Fluent English was the best scientific credential in the Soviet Union and it gave you access to foreign literature, verboten otherwise
you don't discover/invent, instead you translate from Yankees and tell your superiors you invented it
and you will only have a 10 year wait to get a new Lada

the Soviets also did things that would be considered far too risky to do in the west
everything from nuclear testing in Kazakhstan and the World's first Breeder reactor, 60 years ago
to the biggest Bio-War program the world has ever seen
the entire country of Kazakhstan is an ecological disaster

and let's not forget Novichok, of all "the nerve" er gas

everything else in Russia is stuck with 1991 Russian technology
instead of intenet-of-things
it's a bunch of old rusty Russian things with gears

I do like reverse engineering old Soviet/Russian electronics, like the old Soviet TVs made in Lvov
or Soviet Radios made at the Minsk Radio Factory where Lee Harvey Oswald worked....

retro-futurism Soviet Style eta "cressiva"

Russia needs a messiah
the messiah needs a prophet

where be they?
I mean, I think if the messiah was coming, he'd be here by now....
but so far, a total "no show"

the ratio of surrenders to combat casualties in Kursk is a "tell"

what I want to know...
what color of socks will the messiah wear?
black socks???

I think I smell a cookie....

Math in FSU

I myself went to a specialized math school which was a magnet school for gifted kids.

Olga, my wife taught for several years at such a magnet school in Kyiv.
It was actually a feeder school to and a part of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (official long title as National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute."

This Univ and Shevchenko National Univ are ranked 1 and 2 (switching around in various rankings) in all of Ukraine.

For the high school students, they actually covered most of the math that is part of the first two years of math at USA universities.

She teaches mostly Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Partial Differential Equations here at Univ in USA.

- - - - - -

As a joke at her math faculty parties, I tell newcomers that I am not good enough in math to take Differential Equations so I will start with Partial Differential Equations  (the name sounds like it should be simpler since only a 'part' of the material will be covered).

They look at me like I am totally clueless . . . and then my wife has to intervene to tell them I know exactly that PDEs are more difficult than DEs and that I am joking.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

This  is a great joke about PDE  :)

And about accomplishments in science in technology it was totally true: they were only in defense and space programs to ‘show’ the west
All the consumer electronics and in general consumer goods were bad quality and archaic

yes, but at least back in the CCCP days, the "Teknika" was made in the Rodina by Russki Robotnikki..
today EVERYTHNG in Russian Teknika Magazine is 100% Chinese....
and gets a HUGE VAT tax cuz it's imported!!!
to keep the price low, dealers import the cheapest quality products to Russia

you lost your son in the Ukrainian War, and all you got is a cheap Chinese phone??  Spossiba Putin!!!!!

go into any Russian Teknika Magazine...
the only thing in the store, "Made In Russia" are the cheap ultra-thin plastic bags next to the Chinese made cash register

Russia let itself become irrelevant in the high-tech world
it's not even a "third world" country

poor and primitive, that's Russia
and becaause the oligarchs already stole EVERYTHING in Russia
they need new territorial acquistions to find NEW stuff to steal
so they got Transnistia, Ukraine, Georgia to "fight fascism" nudge, nudge, wink, wink

all you "russki ludie" were back in the CCCP listening to "Pravda"
and you missed out on "Charley Wilson's War"

especially Putin
he was stealin food aid money in St Ptersburg istead of watching this movie
cuz it's the same American logistics described in this movie used in Afghanistan that is being used today in Ukraine

and look what the Afganistan war did to the Soviet Union

the longer the war goes on, the greater the risk of Russia fracturing

Ukraine should cut-off and isolate Crimea
and should expand Kursk and promote regional and ethnic separatism within Russia
to get Russians to fight themselves
