Circumcision?
« on: August 27, 2007, 01:24:18 AM »
I saw a story on 60Minutes last night, about the issue regarding circumcision in the Australian community.

Ultimately, the statistics show that is not happening that often. What Im curious about is, how is it viewed in the FSU.

With a number of the members here married, some with kids, or thinking about having kids, has this issue come up?

I also wanted to ask, does anyone know if it is a normal practice in China, and India? (just curious about how it might relate to Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies, and Indian Ayuverdic therapy).

Keep "up" the good work everyone

Circumcision isn't the norm in Europe or the FSU as far as I know. In fact, I think only the USA routinely mutilates children in this manner (dons flame-proof jacket!) and did I read they don't do that any more?

Jews do it of course. Other than that I've no idea.

It's case of Roundheads vs Cavaliers....

It is also very popular in Canada & is a service performed at birth at the behest of the parents should they request it.
It is also a well known fact (according to scientific study) that it is more hygenic for the male after circumcision & that it is also said that it gives more pleasure to both parties during sex. This being especially true for the man due to the nerves in the penis being closer to the action so to speak. But also more pleasure for the woman as the extra layer of skin does not slide to & fro & lessening the stimulation that she feels.
These facts were told to be my doctor & some I read in books, so you can take them as you see fit.
My apologies if my discription offends some, but hopefully we are all adults here & can keep this thread civil..

Doesn't the 'hardening' of the skin on the glans make it less sensitive? I'd have thought so but I'm no Doc.

As I said, I'm not a doc but chopping bits of skin off for no reason goes against the grain for me. It's there for a reason!

I know one guy who got chopped in his 30's - he was in agony for three weeks, couldn't walk....

I'd ask him if it's more or less sensitive but it's not the kinda question u ask a guy unless you are a pillow-biter or some other form of back-tickler...

I knew the Jews practiced it, but I was unaware about the Muslims. Perhaps from a religious perspective; what does Russian Orthodox view?

Gee, it seems either my doctor was misinformed or something (he was an old dewd & that was a long tme ag) as I just did a search & found quite the opposite to what I was told & learned. Very disheartening I might add, damn it!! ::)

I cant imagine getting it done at my age; ouch!!!

I do think about having it for any future kids I might have. Not for cosmectic reasons, or to increase sensuality (he will have to figure that one out for himsefl), but more for the medical or hygiene reasons. That doesnt mean I would raise a slob and get it done as an excuse to taking a regular shower.

But considering the number of profiles I have seen stating "orthodox" religion I was and still am curious about this. Naturally its a difficult choice. But hey, when in Rome.

It is not done as part of any Orthodox ritual. Our little guy is "intact" and the wife confirmed that this is the norm regarding male children, at least in her part of Russia. I was born in a nice Jewish hospital in Bronx, NY (it was the closest at the time) and thus I am the opposite. That hasn't caused any major surprise or disappointment either  ;).

TBH i think foreskin or not its no exscuse for not washing your dick before putting it to use.

I think the link between cervical cancer and the crap under a mans foreskin is as a result of him not polishing his helmet properly, because in my experience RW are especially vigilant about not letting a dirty dog into their bed so bathing was a pre-requisite to lovemaking (hence my "taking a bath" analogy about a RW asking to stay the night).

If people run into trouble its the sort who indulge in mucky liasons in drunken stupor down an alley rather than man and wife who keep their bits and bobs in good order.

as for RW, i don't think they care either way as long as its clean and you know what to do with it :)

I can only offer the opinion of one woman and she says her first husband was circumcised and she prefers that.  It's good thing, because I'm not about to have that thing sewed back on!  I haven't done any personal studies, but I think uncircumcised is more common in the FSU.

I perused the articles on the link given and found them rather militant.  They are also 10 years old and since then they have found a link between noncircumcised males and increased rates of cervical cancer in their partners.  There is also an increased rate of urinary tract infections in uncircumcised children, but I think this is more an issue of personal hygeine than anything else.  I've seen many times cases where there was an infection and the swelling caused a blockage.  It's quite interesting to see a penis with a balloon on the end filled with urine.

Now having said that, what advice did I give to new parents?  I recommended circumcision if the father was circumcised and not if he wasn't.  There is an issue of self image with these little guys that I feel also needs to be taken into account.

When I did them, I always gave a local anesthetic first and they very commonly slept through it.  I did hear of one horror story where a resident got the bright idea of using a cautery tool to cut the skin instead of a scalpel.  When he took the metal bell off the end of the penis, the tip came off with it.  You can bet shorty's parents filed a lawsuit!

At first I thought you were talking about yourself.   :D

I believe the vast majority of RM are not "cut" as my Moscow woman called it (based on a visit to a public Russian banya).

Personally, my doctor used pinking shears rather than a scapel.  Gives a nice look if your woman likes frilly dillies.

She understands perfectly! I know I'm might be biased but I never met any foriegner with better English than hers.

She loves my humour but only when it's not centred around toilets or bodily functions. Doesn't really leave me with much!

Her favourite comedy here though is Men Behaving Badly, much coarser than the watered-down US version.

"When there's always biscuits in the biscuit tin, where's the fun in biscuits?..."

There is a medical value to foreskins.  I recall one boy who was born without eyelids.  They were able to graft on some of the foreskin and it worked perfectly......other than that he's a bit cock-eyed.  :D

Jokes apart, I do hope that after the operation it becomes more sensitive. Reason being, due to a slight malformation I need to have the foreskin cut off. My parents should have thought about it when I was very young, but they didn't... now I've known about this problem for quite some time, but what do you want... I still have to find enough nerve to go to the local hospital and ask for the operation. Not easy when you're 30+...
Let's hope it helps, because sex lately has been less enjoyable than it should be.

In ten minutes you went from believing, all your life, you had and given to your partner full pleasure in sex only learn you were cheated. My condolences.

I read similar stuff in this article and it doesn't look good for you guys missing part of your manhood.

http://www.tau.ac.il/humanities/philos/segel/hanoch2-britmila-eng.html

Modern-day studies support the opinion that circumcision diminishes the sexual pleasure of a man and his partner. Circumcision affects the nervous system of the penis, thereby causing the organ to be less sensitive; because, among other reasons, of the important role of the foreskin in intercourse, circumcision also results in a change in the dynamics of the act. This belief is backed up by a statistical study of the opinions of women who had experienced sex with both circumcised and uncircumcised men.
